Hello Steve Taylor1,

Much as I want to believe I cannot find a way to use your guide. Whenever I right click on an album (or play the music in some other roundabout way) if the album consists of a blank square with a musical note ... that is all I could drag into the empty white box. Wonder if the OP is finding something different. I posted in a separate thread this morning about an hour ago on this very subject.

There are several ways to do this:-

1. Run the Get Album Artwork (in the File->Library drop down menu) to allow iTunes to get the artwork from its own database.

2. Add the artwork yourself:-

a. Select Track(s) by clicking and using the shift key for selecting multiple tracks.

b. Either "CMD I" or select File->Get Info to pull up the info screen.

c. When you have found the artwork (Internet/Hard Drive), drag this (or copy/paste) to the "Artwork" Tab for a single track OR artwork area on the bottom right of the window for multiple tracks. It would be adviseable to store the artwork with the music file for future copy/paste and allowing iTunes to find it.

For identifying tracks without Artwork, "Tracksift" is useful and deleting dead iTunes track references. This is one of Doug Adams useful tools for working with iTUnes and available from the Apple App store.

Hello Mark,

And thank you for your patiently constructed advice. But I'm still in trouble.

Point 1 you made was so encouraging 🙂, a panel appeared and checks seemed to be being made. It appeared to suggest 48 out of 71 albums were now accounted for ... but when I tried to utilise this, I still had multiple blank squares with musical notes 😟. And it turned out the 48 figure matched the 48 original blank squares. 😢

I know where the originals are; they can be found within the system ... they are in 'Show in iTunes Store' ... but they simply won't drag into any other part of iTunes options.

You may have noticed I have been grousing about this all morning. In one post in particular I went on about we not having to seek out workarounds for something so absolutely basic in terms of programming.

I have no idea how you have constructed your library but I know mine is always separate to iTunes.

Thus I would propose copying the files from "Show in iTunes" to another folder. Then import that folder to the library nd try again.

So my simple set up is:-

iTunes Media folder location (iTunes Preferences->Advanced Preferences) to the iTunes folder.

Keep folder organised UNTICKED.

Copy Files to Media Folder UNTICKED.

Music files in their own folder (D:\Music\* etc)

The only problems I have is finding the album/single artwork for the obscure bands I like because they are not on iTunes/database.

Hope you can get it sorted out.

Hello again Mark,

Thanks for your interest; I wish I could mark you with a helpful star for you deserve it, but I'm not the original poster.

My set up is very simple and not that large. I have only 6 (yes, only 6) individual iTunes purchases, all the rest being ripped from LPs and CDs etc from my collection. So I'm not sure a separate folder could be justified.

In the old iTunes set up, the album artwork (even from some obscure albums} automatically appeared once the music was in my library so it wasn't necessary to go hunting. And this of course, is the nub of my problem (and probably the reason why iTunes couldn't care less).

Incidentally, Google and Amazon can be useful resources for album artwork.

I'll look at this thread over the next few days and if I come up with something I'll post back.

Thank you again. Happy New Year.
