SO I'm going to the states (Canadian phone) so I wanna use my phone to listen music but not get charged roaming fees so is there away to turn it off ?
If you have iOS 6, go to Settings > General > Cellular and turn off Cellular Data and Data Roaming.

Sorry new to iPhones

Yes, you will only be able to check Facebook, email etc. with WiFi.
There wouldn't be any connections to your Canadian cellular network anyway. It's too far. What will be turned off is connections to American cellular networks.
Thanks for the help
Glad to help. Enjoy your trip!
