Please try to do a restore your iPod to factory settings.

If does not work, it likely to be a hardware issue e.g. cracked LCD screen then
your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk

You are not alone. Search "half screen" for others who are experiencing this ever-widening design flaw - - at least that's what I think it is. One of the regulars on these boards indicated he was working with Apple to resolve the problem. My sense is that there is no way to resolve the problem short of Apple offering to exchange those afflicted with the half screen syndrome for a new nano.

If your iPod nano has an LCD screen problem then read on otherwise disregard the following response ( copied from another posting):

"Good news! The iPod nano which appeared to me as a 'cracked LCD screen' with no other physical signs of the crack on iPod and which, I believe, Apple interprets as an 'LCD screen anomaly' has been replaced, free of charge. It was purchased last November.

If you feel your iPod has the same issue, go to the iPod service link
http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

On the second or third screen, when you see the option to replace parts or replace whole unit, select whole unit replacement. I was stumped on that selection. If Apple determines that the iPod meets the LCD screen anomaly criteria, they will replace your iPod.

A warning: I spoke with three service people at Apple and received three different answers. Be persistent."

If this question helped you, please help three other iPod users.

A SOLUTION to the half screen problemUser uploaded file

This morning I visited the Apple store nearest me and, after a quick look at the "screen anomaly" (as I referred to it), the Apple support Genius told me that he would replace it with a new brand new nano - - which he did! No problems. No discussion. No attempt to hide behind an expired warranty. Just courteous service. Excellent!

Suggestion: If you intend to go to an Apple store for a problem with an Apple product, you should make a reservation! You can do that online. When you arrive at the store, you should check in and then wait until you are called. I didn't have a reservation, but was able to make one for one hour later. Then, I had to wait about thirty to forty-five minutes before a Genius (as they call their tech support personnel) was available.
