iPad error message

iPad has come up with an error message that states "this iPad hasn't been backed up in 7 weeks. Backups occur when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to WiFi".. When you press OK, it does not clear the error message. iPad cant be switched off to restart it. No other programs can be used on the iPad. Any suggestions on how to make the error message disappear???

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. You can then do a backup
