After sleep, my iMac displays the last page and to access the login area I have to 'wipe' the screen with the mouse to clear away the 'old' screen to see the log in box. Any ideas?

After a period of 'sleep', my iMac displays a screen before login. To get to the login box, I have to 'wipe' this screen with the mouse to literally clear away part of this screen in order to find the log in box. After this, and when logged in the iMac works just fine

Any ideas gratefully received.
