iphone5 battery status issue

Hello everyone,

I've had this problem for a while now, though this is the first time I'm posting about it. My iphone5 battery status doesn't update at all. The phone can be fully charged, and the screen will tell me that it's at 100% indefinitely - that is, until the phone shuts off due to no battery power. The battery status only updates if I restart the phone. Has anyone else encountered this issue? And is there a solution for it, other than constantly restarting my phone? Thanks for your help!
