Can I drag & drop music from iTunes to my iPhone?

Phone: 4S OS 6

Because of the way library audio books transfer and my incompetance I always get screwed up when I try and move only a few songs from iTunes to my iPohone when syncing. Is there a way I can manually drag and drop the songs to my iPhone?

Thanks in advance... Bob

That article appears to refer to an older version of iTunes. It talks of dragging songs from the iTunes library on the right side of the screen to my iPhone contents on the left hand side of the screen. I don't see how to get my iPhone data on the left and at the same time show the iTunes music library on the right.

I still can't get any songs manually to the iPhone. I can drag and drop from iTunes and even though there are no error messages and it appears as though it should work the songs are not there. I can even drag and drop a playlist and the playlist appears on my iPhone but there are no songs in it!

You can only sync an iPhone to one computer. You cannot connect it to a computer different from the one it syncs to and drag music onto it.

If you want to be able to drag music onto your iPhone from the computer that it has been syncing to you must check the "Manually manage music and videos" box under Options on the iPhone page in iTunes. This will change your method of syncing from automatic sync to manual sync, and will erase all music currently on your phone to set up this new method of transferring music to the phone.

The better way to do this is to NOT use "Manually manage..." and instead create a playlist in iTunes of all of the music you want on the iPhone. Drag all of the tracks you want on the phone to this playlist, then click the Sync button.

Ya but what if your original computer broke and now you have a new one ? There should be a way to click on something and say this is the main computer

No problem! Simply restore the backup of the original computer to the new computer. We are over 3 decades into the personal computer era; surely no one neglects to keep backups of their important data anymore, as it's so easy and inexpensive to do. Then when you sync with the new computer you won't lose anything; it doesn't even need a switch to say this is a new computer.

If that doesn't work there IS a workaround, but it is a lot more work and not free: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
