Is there a disc to digital for iTunes yet? I have a small collection of DVDs I'd like to transfer to digital copies (and even upgrade them to HD), but I don't want to use Ultraviolet as I would like to keep my movies in one place. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

-VUDU will let you take DVD's and Blu-rays you own, and disc-to-digital into your ultraviolet library by going to a Walmart Store
-CinemaNow will let you disc-to-digital discs youown into your ultraviolet library from home, but it only works on DVD's.
To top it all the list of titles available for disc-to-digital is currently pretty shoddy, so most of my time is spent ripping the disc into an M4V file, storing it on an external hard drive on my mac and watching on the AppleTV's / iPads around the house via home sharing.
What few movies I probably want on the road I either sync locally onto the IOS device before travelling or use those on the rare occasion from Ultraviolet.
Obviously a key expansion area for iTunes disc-to-digital options. I'd pay handsomely for it ;-)
UPDATE: I just checked and the new VUDU Beta allows you to do disc-to-digital for DVD and Blu Rays at home. Still ultraviolet centric of course.
So it seems that without any iTunes solution (for anyone ans frustrated as me) is;
1) Use VUDU to buy/disc-to-digital DVDs and blu-ray into the Ultraviolet library ($2 per disc)
2) Use Cinemanow app to watch movies out of the same Ultraviolet library online browser / iPhone / iPad as it also has an offline 'download to device' feature which VUDU does not.
Doesn't really help answer the original question, but until we get an iTunes disc-to-digital its making the best of what is around.
Apple should just step up and take this one. No extra apps or option via Apple TV. Just allow the Apple community to walk into an Apple Store and trade-in my disks. I would pay to have my collection in the cloud and in one format.
I have the same concern. Walmart has become a sea of "UV codes included". Couple this with disk 2 digital and its a massive war on itunes. Walk into best buy and you can count the blurays that come with itunes codes on one hand. Its shocking.
I wonder if Apple will attempt to negotiate a move into disk to digital. And if so will the studios even entertain them

If Apple would implement some sort of disc to digital program for my Disney movies, that would be a HUGE step forward. Having to pay $20 more for a digital version of a movie I've owned a physical copy of for years is absurd.
APPLE: Please take a page out of the Vudu (technically Ultraviolet) playbook!
It's been a lifesaver being able to pay a marginal fee ($1-$2.50) for digital copies on Vudu & have them available to my kids in hotel rooms & road trips (certainly better than packing disks!). Problem is most of my Pixar & Disney stuff is unavailable for them to watch since I can't get reasonably priced digital versions on iTunes (& they UV/Vudu doesn't have a contract with these production companies).

Make Vudu/Ultraviolet compatible with Apple/iTunes.
Gave up on itunes for Movies and with that also Disney movies. Vudu has let me watch movies any where I go, haven't had a single issue yet. You can disc to digital at home using the Vudu at home app for both DVD and Blu-Ray at $2 a disc. If you have to have a DVD in HD you can up convert for $5. You can download your movies when you want using Vudu at home and there is an app for ipad/iphone/ipod. Disney blocks disc to digital and now they seem to be the only production company that is not supporting Vudu/Ultraviolet if you buy the disc in the store. So I don't buy Disney in the store anymore, I get Disney movies straight from Vudu.
