I have been tryiing to calibrate the color on a new 27 inch 2012 iMac but the color is badly out. I have a 23 inch cinema display and also compared it to an iPad both of these pretty much match but the new iMac is way out lacking in red and too much green. I am using the system color calibration in expert mode.
Anyone else having simliar issues? All advice welcome.

Using your eye works for some, but you'll have to work at it for awhile.

Thanks but I have tried about 20 times now and the color is so far out as a web designer it is in effect unusable. With a previous iMac 2008 I had It was no where near showing such a difference. I'll see if I can borrow a Spyder from a mate of mine.
If it's a new machine, contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Since it's a desktop, you might be eligible for onsite service (may require having AppleCare protection plan), but without any location info, difficult for me to determine.
Yes I intend to. Will go to my nearest Apple store and check them out there to try and see if it is general issue with all iMacs or just mine.
I just got the 21.5" imac and am having the same problem and do not want to invest in a colorimeter right now. Any success or advice? Unfortunately, I live over an hour from the closest apple store.

I went to the Apple store and checked out every machine and the colours were the same apart from on a Mac Book Air. On an iPad 2 and iPhone upto and including an iPhone 4s it was the same as the Air which were the same as my 23 inch Cinema display calibrated by eye. I then used a hardware calibrator which synced both screens and was quite a bit different from doing it by eye and closer but certainly not the same to the initial iMac setting but considerably less bright.
So basically as the vast majority of users will never calibrate their monitor and of course cannot do on an iPad and iPhone then there is no such thing as correct colour when creating websites. Print of course is an entirely different matter.
I have yet to go to a store to compare on Windows.
Apple's default display settings are garish and overly warm (red-yellow effect). I've severely toned it down and moved to the blue side by recalibrating in expert mode. Compare these to the native ColorSync profile.
