Hi,

At the time the original responses were written Facebook were using a Jabber Server and you just added an Account as a Jabber one.

Since then Facebook have done away with the Jabber server and Messages can no long join that service.

The same applies to iChat if you are still using it.

Hi,

For Text chats, yes.

Add your ID as a Jabber ID after you have Enabled "Chat" on your Facebook Settings.

Hi,

If you use Chat on Facebook you have probably enable the "Chat" option.

Jabber is an IM (Instant Message) service.

Facebook run a Jabber server using the Facebook IDs as valid Jabber IDs on their Server.

Therefore your Facebook ID is a valid Jabber ID and can be used in Apps that can use the Jabber Service.

iChat and Messages in Mountain Lion can access Jabber servers.

You add your Facebook ID under the Jabber option.

HI,

How do you log in to Facebook when you use a Web Browser ?

This must be with some form of ID that only works at Facebook.

This would be your Facebook ID.

I would expect it to be in the form of username@facebook.com

However Defcom's iClarified Link suggests it maybe username@chat.facebook.com

The pics shown are from iChat 5 but apply exactly the same. (It shows MobileMe and @mac.com options under AIM)

It is likely to be the name/ID you use with their Chat option.

My understanding is that the Chat option is a setting in your Facebook Account settings that is called "Chat" and has to be enabled.
