Photos don't appear when I connect the iphone to my computer (windows)

When I connect my iphone no files show up when I click on the iphone icon in 'my computer' but I know there are photos and video on my phone (and they appear when connected to my husband's computer) - how do I get them to show up? Any help gratefully received!
