What remote control are you referring to?????
the infrared remote control to use with itunes.
Not sure any of the newer iMac have an inferred sensor built into them. Check the Specs on the Apple site.
The new iMacs no longer have IR receivers.
Sorry.
So now that I have a new iMac and a new Apple dvd player, because I still need to play dvds on my computer, I am expected to cling to my mouse or trackpad when I want to control the playback functions? I would rather have functionality than an iMac that looks cool and thin only when you look at it from the side.
Is there no way at all to have some kind of remote control that will do this? An app? An iPhone app?
I have a fairly new iMac (purchased late 2011) and it has an IR receiver. Check your system information (Hardware>USB>IR Receiver) before you give up.
I'm trying to repurpose an old remote control (from my 2006 iMac), and it doesn't seem to work with the new box, for whatever reason, but the IR Receiver is definitely there.
Referring to mjam69's post......
If your iMac is brand new (late 2012) it definitely does not have an IR receiver. Earlier iMacs did have them, and can be controlled with Apple's remote controller hardware accessory.
For these new iMacs, you'll probably want to look at using a Bluetooth Apple keyboard.....or look in the iOS App Store for a remote control app for your iPhone/iPad. I just did a search, and saw at least one app, Mobile Mouse, that will will provide the functionality you need.
I use something called mira to use my (Aliminium Apple) remote with late 2012 imac, just plug a £2 reciever in usb and with mira you can controll every app on your mac with it, u can even customise what each press dose if you really want to get that into it. I'd defenatly recomend it ( and no I have no affiliation with them :-) )
check it out here
Those apps are for controlling televisions, or apple TV perhaps; none of them I have looked at control the iMac while it is playing a DVD, the way the Apple remote used to.
