There seems to be several pieces of software that I have no idea what it is. I would like to delete what I don't need, where can I get the information to help me with this task?

Based on some of the applications that you have listed suggests to me that you are new to the Mac world, I would not delete anything at this time. Rather I suggest that you acquaint yourself with the Mac world via tutorials such as found here:

Gain some experience and you should be in a position to maker such decisions on your own.. Understand that what is important to me may not be to you and the converse.

Most of those programs are ones that come with the Mac and should NOT be deleted. Such as: Automator, Font Book, Game Center, Messages, Quick Time Player, Remote Desktop, Time Machine. You could remove the Microsoft software and Numbers and Pages but they won't save you much space and you might need them later.
Confused some software should I keep or delete it?
