Importing photos in iPhoto

I keep getting a message, when I open iphoto, that says I have 18 photos in my iphoto library that weren't imported. When I opt to import them, no photos are shown in recovered photos or last import. Opting "no" adds the photos to a file, but the file ends up empty. Why is this message still there every time and, how do I get rid of this message?
