Beeping while charging

I received my iPad as a Christmas gift 5 days ago. The battery was showing 26% so I hooked it up to my charging station with the plug in and cable provided. My iPad started beeping loudly and the battery symbol started flashing. I don't know what this is about and I don't want to have to listen to my iPad beeping every time I want to charge it. Any ideas on what's up?
