4th Generation 8 GB Ipod Touch - How many songs can it really hold?

I keep reading that my 4th generation 8g ipod touch should hold approximately 1750 songs. I seem to be maxing out at 650 songs and then run out of space. It definitely got worse when ios6 was installed. It actually deleted some of my songs - 50 or so. I don't have any apps other than the ones that came with the ipod that we can't delete. I have no videos. I only use it for music. I did check the file sizes of the songs, which I purchased from Itunes and most run between 7 megs and 9+ megs. I imported approximately 4 cds and the file sizes are pretty much the same. Based on all of this, is it safe to assume that I'll never hit the 1750 limit? How are some people able to do it on an 8g ipod, especially when purchasing songs from Itunes? They only download at a 256 bit rate and I am learning that this leads to larger files. So how do people do it? Anyone know? I must be missing something. Any suggestions or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

How do people do what?

If your music was at 128 then you would get twice as many = 1300.

There is no 1750 limit. it is merely suggesting that depepnding on the size of the songs and the space available, it is possible that 1750 songs could be put on the ipod.

That by no means is telling you that that is how many of your songs you will get on the ipod.

ok. Thank you. I'm new to this and have been researching as much as possible, trying to make sure that I am understanding this correctly before going out to spend more money on a larger capacity Ipod. Everything I read stated 1750 songs or 1500 songs but it didn't make sense to me. I wasn't sure if I was misunderstanding but it seems that I'm not. If I imported cds at a bitrate of 128, then my files would be much smaller. I can change my settings to 128 in order to import cds. However, as most of my music comes from ITunes and their songs are downloaded at a bitrate of 256 (which from what I have been reading cannot be changed), then the files will be larger and take up more space. So I am correct - I will need a larger IPod if I would like to increase my music library. Thanks for your answer.
