UK Authors publishing on iBooks

I am a UK author, currently publishing only on Kindle, as well as the paperback variety. I would like to use the iBooks format, but understand that the Apple system currently only favours American authors, because of tax issues, which are complicated for non US residents. This is not the case with Kindle, which appears to be a much simpler process.

I did publish one book via Smashwords on iBooks several years ago, but it was such a slow, tortuous process that I gave up. I would prefer to publish direct with iBooks, if possible, and not through a so-called 'Aggregator' (What a dreadful term!).

Are there any UK authors out there who have published successfully with iBooks, and have managed to deal with tax issues without using Smashwords and their kind. If so, I would love to hear from you, and any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
