download for iOS 6.0.1 software fails

I have an ipod touch 4th generation. Everytime I try to download the softeare update it says network connection timed out and exits. I cannot update. It is not my network as I have tried at many differnet places through different connections. I have tried downloading on my computer through iTunes as well as through my browser and also directly on my iPod. Anyone else experiencing the same thing. How do you fix this? Thanks for the help
