Home Sharing on my Apple TV is unreliable. Faulty product?

I can be watching films and televison series on my apple tv streamed from my macbook pro and the connection drops randomly. My apple tv indicates that home sharing has been switched off, although it hasn't. All other settings are as they should be, regarding the firewall and so that my macbook doesn't sleep when using homesharing. I then have to turn home sharing on itunes on and off before it will work again. Have I got a faulty product?
