Apple ID greyed out.

Hi,

I'm trying to change my Apple Id to different account on my iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.1 by going Settings>iTunes & App Stores then tap Apple ID: but the Apple ID: is grey instead of black & so won't allow the change.

I've tried re-booting the iPhone (Turn off, then power on) to no avail. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Seán.

I read this in another post and it helped me log out of the apple ID.

1. Open the App Store

2. Goto the Features page.

3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and press on the button with your Apple ID.

4. Press logout.

I was having the same problem, with similar lack of success overcoming it. Today, I spotted some additional strange behaviour (unable to delete apps, no x in corner of any of them). This led me to Settings > General > Restrictions (fortunately, I recalled my pass code!) where I disabled restrictions. My Apple ID was no longer greyed out.

A little further experimenting suggests that I only needed to change one setting, rather than disabling all restrictions (there are many individual items). This was Allow Changes > Accounts > Allow Changes.

In classic form, I had forgotten those tweaks I made earlier when 'exploring' how to make my phone more secure! Still, that's how we learn. I hope this works for you, too.

If only I could... because the Apple ID: is grey, you can't log out or change it. That is my problem.

Check your account restriction settings. You likely have accounts locked down (no changes allowed) and thus the sign out is grayed out so nobody can change that account setting.
