First, reset the PMU. That can often fix power-related glitches. If that doesn't do it, you can try a PRAM reset:
- Shut down your Mac.
- Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
- Turn on the computer.
- Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
- Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
- Release the keys.
If one of those two steps doesn't change anything, do you have another working battery you can substitute?

Jan 1, 2013 6:16 AM in response to BGregby sach69,Cheers for the reply, it did fall on the floor! I have tried both those resets without success and at the moment dont have a spare battery. I dont know how fragile the battery is and whether it is likely that could be the problem, it is a generic cheap one! When I first picked it up all the timme settings had gone and needed resetting but apart from that all seems well apart from the battery.

Maybe a trip to a local Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider is possible? You want to see if they have a working battery they can put it, to determine if the battery is at fault or it's something else.
When it fell on the floor, did it have the power adapter plugged in and if so, did it fall on that? If that's the case, it's possible your DC-In card is toast (if you put the tip of a pen on the PowerBook jack that the power adapter plugs into, does it easily wiggle?), however, that shouldn't normally prevent the PowerBook from seeing the battery.

Jan 4, 2013 8:44 AM in response to BGregby sach69,Cheers again, it is a 12", the power adapter is working fine but I think I will have to find some way of trying another battery to see if that makes the difference.
