I can browse through iTunes and navigate the site but it won't connect when I go to purchase songs

I am able to connect to the iTunes store for navigating and listening to samples, but when I go to download/purchase or update my apps, it will not connect to iTunes store.

I used to have to type in my password but it doesn't ask me for this either.

Please help.

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.2
