Q: disc burner software not found

After downloading the newest iTunes my drive won't recognize audio cds or burn any discs. I have looked at numerous articles and done troubleshooting. Even the diagnostics test wouldnt work because the drive wasn't detected. Help!!

What drive letter do you currently have the optical drive mapped to?

Don't expect much help with that kind of an answer for clarification about your problem.

Check in Computer (or My Computer if you're using XP). What drive letter is showing up for the troublesome optical drive in there?

    Okay.

Could you post your diagnostics anyway? (Even though they aren't showing the drive.)

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". (If you're running iTunes 11.0.x you'll need to bring up your menu bar first to see the Help menu.) Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

    dvdcd diagnostics.png

    ... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

    diagnostics complete.png

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

Sadly b noir isn't very active these days. I'm not sure what he was looking out for in the diagnostics, or what his next troubleshooting steps might have been.

    QuickTime not available

That's one big problem. There should be a version number for QuickTime, for example my diagnostics say

    ......

    iTunes 10.7.0.21

    QuickTime 7.6.9

    FairPlay 2.2.19

    ......

iTunes absolutely depends on QuickTime for almost everything.

I suggest getting the standalone QuickTime version and making sure it can install.

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Also, there should be a section for the CD/DVD drive if you had that checked off in diagnostics.

    Such as,

    **** CD/DVD Drive Tests ****

    LowerFilters: edited for privacy (1.2.3.4),

    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.2.3.0),
