iMessage only showing email addresses and not a phone number. Help!

I've tried resetting my iPad three times, each time using a different option, and it still is only allowing me to pick from a few email adresses to use as my default for iMessage. I want to be able to use my phone number. Any tips?

Do you own an iPhone? Only an iPhone number associated with your iTunes Apple ID will work with messages. Even then the iPad will only send iMessages to other iOS devices and Apple computers running it's Messages app..

I'm having similar problem - iMessage on my mac only works with email and messages on my new iPhone 6 works with phone number. I used to get messages (from other iPhones) on both and could answer from either. Now they are totally separate. I've tried toggling messages on and also get 'waiting for activation' and when I sign in to my apple acct. I get 'please check network connection'.

I hope someone has a solution for us.

Hi Stephen

Because I wasn't sure which forum to post this on since it affected 3 devices, I posted on the MAC form. I think the moderator then posted it on both iPhone & iPad. I appreciate your reply, but I did figure it out on my own . Here is my reply on the other forum.

"NEVER MIND.. I FIGURED IT OUT!!! I kept reading about TEXT MESSAGE FORWARDING and could not find the option on my phone. When i upgraded to OS 8.4, somehow that option got UNCHECKED. So, when I set message and FaceTime up again from scratch TO FIX MY SNAFOOS, I didn't see the text message forwarding because it doesn't appear unless your check off both your ph # and your email address and I only had my ph # checked off. So, I just went back to my messaging setup on my iPhone, and checked off my email address as well, and then the text message forwarding option appeared and I had to turn the options on again TO SEND SMS TO MY IPAD & MAC. Its always something really simple and really dumb...haha. All works great as it did before OS 8.4 Please post this somewhere where others who may be experiencing this issue can read it.. Thanks

Thanks ALL !
