my macbook pro keeps making a noise like something being dropped in water, its a notification noise but i dont know what for? it happenns most often when im watching youtube videos, dvds and movies but it happens even when im not doing any of those things.

I FINALLY figured it out! After so much time dedicated to figuring out what that STUPID Bloop bloop a.k.a. water bubbler a.k.a. bubbles popping a.k.a. fish bubbles a.k.a. chugging water a.k.a. whatever you want to call that annoying sound was...
It is related to SKYPE.
When a person logs into Skype, it makes the bloop bloop. You can test it by having a friend log out of skype and back in.
So happy I figured it out and so aggitated that I didn't figure it out sooner. =.=

Thank you for this. I am a recent convert from Windows to Mac, and this sound was driving me crazy. In WIndows you get a notification in the lewer right. In the Mac, it kept going bloop bloop. I was in a meeting at 9:30 AM, and I guess all my contacts were coming online during that time, and it kept blooping all through the meeting.
you can go into system preferences/sound,sound effects tab and turn the Alert volume all the way down for situations when you don't want to be hearing it.

You can turn off the alert for when a contact becomes available on Skype.
