atv and airport extreme

I have an airport extreme 5th generation and an Apple TV second generation. I have the Apple tv attached to my tv, I have an external hard drive full of movies connected to airport extreme. I would like to know how to watch those movies that are located on the external hard drive thru my apple tv. I would also like to know if i need my computer to access the movies located on the hard drive that is attached to my airport extreme or can i access them thru the apple tv without having to use my computer?

iTunes must be running on a Mac somewhere on the network.

All of your media must be in the iTunes Media Folder. See this Apple support document to learn how to move the iTunes Media Folder to the hard drive. When you do this, the ATV will be able to access the media.

None of this really has anything to do with AirPort Extreme support, so you you may need to post in the iTunes and ATV support areas for more information.
