Why is my gain so low?

I just recently got the Shure PG27 USB microphone and am trying to use it to record in Garageband. Whatever I try to record comes out very quiet. I know the mic is recording because if I tap it I can see it's picking up a very quiet signal. I can't seem to get it to record any louder. The gain knob on the mic is all the way up and it won't let me make the input volume any louder under sound in system preferences. Is it possible that my mic is broken? Is there anything else I can try?

Maybe you can up the gain in the Audio/Midi Utility.

Are you getting enough gain at the mic (yellow led indicator).

Have pad switch set to 0db.

The pad is set to 0db. I can only get it to flash green if I hit the mic hard enough.

Make sure you launch GB before pluging in the mic. Then open System Prefs/Sound, select the mic and set the level.
