I cnnot see the icon for my ipod on the screen and do not know how to put recently purchased songs on the ipod now Very new at all of this can anyone HELP?

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. You should then be able to select the iPod on that left-hand sidebar under 'devices' and use the Music tab on the right-hand side to select and sync your music to it.
