ISO 6.0.1 is not good

I have a iPhone 4 and updated it to iso 6.0.1 and now all of my contacts are gone! I have talked to others who have had same/similar issues. Is there any way to retrieve the contacts we lost? Why do they not warn you it will totally screw your phone up?
