I have 60gig model that I purchased in October. I noticed within the past week and a half that I at times I have to toggle the hold switch multiple times for it to actually function properly (i.e.- setting the switch to the "Hold" position does nothing, I'll have to switch it back and forth for it to put the iPod into Hold mode).
Is there a fix for this outside of sending my iPod in for repair? If I need to send it in for repair does it matter that I have custom engraving on the back?
you might want to send it in for repair, as it is a rather odd thing to happen.
and they will redo a personalization, but you may have to mention that when requesting service. it won't cost extra.
If you send it in for repair and you have custom engraving they will not re-engrave it for you. Also have you tried to restore the iPod? Click the link below for restoring instructions:
Repair seems to be the only way out, but contrary to what the above poster said, I was told by Apple that repair can be done on a personalized iPod but it would take longer to get back.

It will be engraved the same as you had Apple do it when purchased, but if you had custom engraving (done by Joe's Jewelry Shoppe), it will not be engraved.
