iTunes screen saver only shows a few albums

since an upgrade to Mountian Lion (10.8) my iTunes screensaver stopped working with an error messages saying no artwork could be found. I saw a blog post about Voice Memos causing an issue, so I deleted all of them and it then started to work again, BUT it now only displays a very small number of album covers (about 6 out of several hundred).

Does recreating your iTunes library delete all your rating; playlists and other play statistics?
