Network Analyzer/sniffer

My network-based computers routinely start "talking" to other computers even though I haven't done anything to initiate such converations.I'd like to know more about these "converations" than I know now - which is nothing.

Please sugest a Mac OS 9 based sniffer application that I can use to help me figure out what traffic is being transfered and what information is being exchanged.

Try EtherPeek:

Etherpeek looks like it might work. Although my initial test indicated Etherpeek is flawed.

1) I started Etherpeek on my host machine

2) I started a massive file transfer (web to computer) on another machine

3) The transfer completed successfully about an hour later (500,000,000 bytes copied)

4) Etherpeek only reported about 100,000 bytes for the entire transfer

But the product has many settings and lots of choices so I will reserve judgement for now.

Thanks for the suggestion.
