Asus PB278Q resolution problem on mac mini 2012

Hello,

Just after delivery, I connected this monitor on the mac mini with a HDMI wire.

In that case, maximum resolution is 1920x1080 on Asus PB278Q screen.

I tried to connect via HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI wire. Same problem (but better colors and brightness).

Maybe. Mac mini 2011 HDMI output doesn't support more than 1920-by-1200 resolution, but mac mini 2012 specs indicates no limitation.

So I bought a mini displayport to HDMI adapter + HDMI wire. Same problem ...

I also connected together mini displayport to HDMI adapter + HDMI to DVI adapter + DVI wire. SAME PROBLEM ...

Mac mini Display settings never shows 2560x1440 resolution in the list (the window title is ASUS PB278 but not ASUS PB278Q), but this monitor really supports this mode with dual link DVI, HDMI and Display Port inputs.

Do you have an idea ?

Thanks

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

@michmuch:

Did the MDP to DP solution work for you? I also have a Mac Mini (2012)/PB278Q combo...bought a minidisplayport to displayport cable at a local computer store and can't get it to work.....the monitor says "No Displayport Cable attached".....not sure if the problem is with the cable or the monitor....just wondering what others experiences have been like?

I bought this cable

https://www.distrelec.ch/c%C3%A2ble-mini-displayport-fiche-displayport-fiche-1-8 -m/maxxtro/pb-958-06/849455/informatique/fr

it seems the same as yours...

I never seen this message "No Displayport Cable attached" !!!

when I start mac mini and screen, I could see for 1 second a message "display port no signal"

after that second, I have the apple logo and the max resolution.

In the "préférences système"->"moniteur" the title is ASUS PB278

Résolution is "Optimisé pour l'écran"

Rotation is Standard

Tx rafraichissement is 60 Hertz (NTSC)

if I click on 'A l'échelle' I could see that the resolution is 2560x1440

may be there is a problem with this cable ???

Apparently the quality of cable you use matters. I originally used this one (ngear):

http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=74605&vpn=NG%2DDPMDP6&manufacture=nGear%20Tech nologies%20Inc%2E

And it didn't work. I returned it to the store and ordered this one (StarTech):

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/startech-startech-6-ft-mini-displayport-t o-displayport-adapter-cable-m-m-mdp2dpmm6-mdp2dpmm6/10192575.aspx?path=704b6e76e 637079ee8725facd4e11c51en02&SearchPageIndex=1

And it's working great on my Mac Mini 2012. The resolution is amazing. I'm now finally happy with the monitor!

Thanks to this thread I bough the $99.00 dual port DVI adaptor and everthing works fine with a MacBookPro (2012 non retina display) and a and ASUS 2560xl440 monitor. I'm getting the marvelous 2560x1440 resolution with absolutely no problem. The mini display to DVI adaptor will not do the job since the ASUS display requires the dual port pins and the extra usb cable to do the job. Thanks to all.

Order this from Staples - StarTech.com Displayport Cable 6ft

Part number: MDP2DPMM6

I had problems with finding this info out. Staples doesn't even know.

It's only $15 !!! Not the $99 usb/display cable.
