Make sure you have match turned on in your device settings as well.

We have got match switched on in settings. Any ideas as the thought of having to re do all these songs from my cd collection fills me with dread, took hours the first time round. Graham

You need to contact support. If you are connected to wifi and match is turned on and it never uploaded your library, and more concerning, removed your library there is a huge issue. 1-800-myApple

Jan 3, 2013 10:52 PM in response to graham569by nakago5000,Hey Graham,
Did you turn on iTunes Match from the computer first or just turned it on the iPad? The music actually gets to iTunes Match by being uploaded from iTunes on a computer. You cannot upload music that exists on an iPad to iTunes Match. It will actually warn you before turning on iTunes Match on the iPad that all the music on the iPad will be deleted (thought it will only do this once). If the music is on the computer, enable iTunes Match there and it should upload and be available to your iPad shortly. If the iPad was the only place your music was stored you will need to download it again (if purchased) or reimport those CD's to your computer and upload to the iTunes Match service afterward. If you do not have the original discs, unfortunately that content is gone and you will have to reacquire the music by either finding a backup copy of the music files you have made or by purchasing it once more.
Contacting AppleCare support as poconopixie has suggested will not yield any better results if your music does not exist on a computer.
Best of luck!
