Q: Forcing to boot from CD

I have a failing? drive and have another internal drive to install OS on. I swapped out the MB from the original (failing) 867. I put in the Install disk, select it for startup. I reboot, but apparently the startup disk isn't seen and it boots normally. I tried the Option key on boot, but only the original hardrive is seen...

Anyone know of a way around this as I assume the MB isn't recognizing the disk?

Thanks for that info...

Do you know if there is something in Terminal that can be changed to see the disc/drive earlier in the boot process?

I don't think in Terminal, possibly might try Single user boot, CMD+s and the mount command, but what is the 2z691-****-A number on this Disc?

Look at the printing on the face of the Install disc, it should have small 2z691-****-A number on it, report that number please.

My records show that is a Jaguar/10.2 Disc...

PowerMac G4 (MDD - Jan 2002) original/authentic Apple restore disc set (grey color) in original white package ("600-9417 Power Mac G4 Media")
* Mac OS X 10.2 Install CDs (2): CD version 1.0: 2Z691-3183-A, 2Z691-3956-A
* Mac OS 9.2.2+Mac OS X 10.2 Restore CDs (4): CD version 1.0: 691-3545-A, 691-3547-A, 691-3548-A, 691-3600-A
* Apple Hardware Test CD: SW version 1.2.6: 691-3623-A

Looks like the MDD 1.25Ghz needs a minimum of 10.3.2 to boot from...

If you need Tiger/10.4, it must be the Retail version.

Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
    * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    * Built-in FireWire
    * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
    * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
