** or minicom for OSX (Intel)

I need either ** or minicom to connect to serial devices in OSX (Intel). I can't find the ** source, and I get this error: "configure: error: No suitable lock directory" when I type ./configure for the minicom binaries I downloaded here: http://alioth.debian.org/projects/minicom/

Any help is very much apriciated. In case you were thinking of suggesting ZTerm it will not work, and it hasn't been updated for years. Thanks in advance

** doesn't stand alone. It's part of the UUCP package. I've downloaded it and it ./configures just fine. My only problem with it is flow control, which means there are some devices out there that I just can't access.

Now if anyone can tell me where the "tip" code might be, that would be nice. Unfortunately, Google is full of all kinds of "tips" and hints, so there's no using a search engine to find it.

Looks like someone hacked the FreeBSD source for OpenDarwin/Mac OS:

http://www.opendarwin.org/pipermail/discuss/2002-October/003819.html

I have a few BSD boxes at work - I may grab the source and try to re-create. If I'm sucessful I'll post here.

For the OP - not sure what you're looking for that ZTerm doesn't handle? I've been able to use it with a Keyspan USB <--> Serial cable for all of my tasks that have required console connections.

Hi Don,

Surely you jest. Even granting the fact that I've completely missed the boat on what it is you're trying to find, a simple search like, Google Search: ** UUCP install "Mac OS X", turned up what I thought sounded like a useful article, AFP548.com: Articles: Finally, a Reason to Use Your Modem. That article will at least tell you where on the gnu site the uucp project is and provides a curl command for downloading it. However be warned, that article is old. You should see if you can find something covering Tiger. I'm pretty sure that I saw Tiger mentioned in some of the items the search found.
