iMessage not working on mac

It started yesterday that I cannot send messages out through iMessage on my Macbook pro. It always says the receiver ID is not registered, but I can send iMessages to the same ID through my iphone or ipad.

Does anyone know what is going on with my iMessage? Thank you very much!

Yes, I have been using the exact same ID. I just tried to log out and try to sign in again. I started to get error messages "the server has encountered an error processing registration". I have tried every methods from the previous posts, like deleting the keychain, comment out. It still doesn't work, but my facetime works on mac though strangely.

HI,

Has this Mac been repaired or refurbished that involved a logic board replacement ?

This may mean the Serial Number was not "flashed" back to the board.

If the Serial Number is missing the Authorisation Token cannot be issued (And placed in the Keychain).

This seems to be new in Messages ver 7.0.1 which was updated with OS X 10.8.2

Hi,

There are two places you can look.

In the Apple Icon menu > About this Mac. This will display the OS version.

If you click this line twice it changes to the Serial Number

Also in the Apple Icon Menu hold down the ALT key when the menu is in the dropped position

The top item will change to the "System Information"

Launch this then look in Hardware.

Hi,

It depends to some extent what message you are seeing in the app.

There is a sort of general "Messages cannot Register try Later" message.

There is a more specific "Messages cannot reach server" type message that was seen over the holidays, presumably as the server was too busy.

Adding Public DNS servers to System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab has helped some.

Some have found Stopping IMAgent in the Activity Monitor and then restarting Messages can help.

HI Andrew,

Where are you seeing this "Greyed Out" version of whether iMessages in Logged in ?

Do you mean Messages Menu > Accounts ?

Do you mean Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages ?

If it is the second can you access the Account Details or Sign Out buttons ?

(I take it the "Enable this Account" box is ticked)

Hi,

You found one place I don't use.

The Messages Menu > Login (Logout) of named account is about any Buddy list that is "Front".

For Instance Enable the Bonjour Account and go to Messages Menu > Preferences > General Section and Untick the line about gathering all Accounts in one list.

Now go to the Window Menu.

Your Bonjour account should appear in the list with it's own keystrokes (if you also have AIM or Jabber accounts they will be separate as well).

Highlight the Bonjour item to bring the Buddy List window to the "front"

Now go to Message Menu > Logout/Login and it will be dark and you can Log out of the Bonjour account.

If I use Messages Menu > Accounts to log out of all my Buddy Lists and leave just iMessages Logged in and even restart Messages the item reads "Log In CMD + L" but does not list the iMessages account.

Are you saying you can read the iMessages account here ?

Basically it refers to a front window (Buddy List) that you may not even have on Show.

If the iMessages account is the only "Account" logged in (No Buddy Lists) then the Messages Menu > Status items also do not apply and the iMessage account is either Logged in or not and has no Status.

At this stage I am not sure why the iMessage Account is not Logged in.

It is fair to say that there is no indication other than being able to Chat that it is ever logged in.
