Please reset iOS Device using the following instructions:

1. Hold power button (top right) & home button (below screen) at the same time

2. Keep holding these 2 buttons until a silver Apple logo appears

3. Once you see an Apple logo, release buttons (allow a few minutes for device to restart)

this is the basic iPhone or iPod touch hard reset method! This maybe will fix a software issue but never a hardware fault!

Hi, my iPhone 5 started to do this yesterday. It only has a few weeks.

My iOS is now 6.1.4.

Is it software?

Definitely a hardware issue.

Get it replaced by Apple.

My 3rd replaced iPhone 5 has also this issue but actually really really rare.

I had this problem with my phone and decided I will take it to the apple store so I booked into a genius bar online (quick and easy)..

Called into the store yesterday .. the apple staff said to me its a hardware problem to do with the gluing of the inside of my phone or something along those lines.. he told me he will replace my phone..

Within two minutes i was walking out of the store with a new store.

please remember guys to back up your phone onto icloud!!!

Go to apple store asap if you do still have your warranty!!

I always did a screenshot of the purple lines when I was at the Genius Bar

Even so I think it's something to do with heat.

To me it only happens when I have my iPhone in my jeans pocket or in the car.

Some glue issue like AineSym says?

Maybe... My concern is that even with a new iPhone, it will happen again...

I wish it was a software thing.

I have the same problem. Noticed 3 times. Everytime I had it in my jeans pocket. But first time it was cold and raining, second time I was hicking and last time under "normal" conditions.

But I don't think it has something to do with the ambient light. The first time it was inside a room with normal light an I try outside again and there it was cloudy, second time on a sunny day and the last time it was inside again.

I think it is a hardware fault. Maybe the cable conection is a little bit loose or somthing.

A Google search shows not so much hits for this problem on english and german site.

So the only way to find out if my handling of the phone (jeans pocket, heating, ...) is problem or it's the phone self, is to replace it.

Hi Guys, i have a question regarding your iPhones! are your devices getting dropped for example, because i have a colleague with the smae issue but he thinks it may be due to the fact that it was droped once and he is not sure when the issue occured for the first time! So do your devices also gettiong dropped?

My iPhone was never dropped.

mine was never dropped as well, in fact 'twas just 2 months old when i discovered the flickering purple lines.

i think am just gonna wait for iOs7 to come out in september, and if the same glitch comes out again, i think it is really a Hardware issue, then am gonna return my unit to my Network provider.

Yesterday it happens the 4th time. The conditions were like the 3 times before: The iPhone was in my pants pocket. Walking a long way and the iPhone heating up by my body heat.

your body heat is not the cause of iphone's heating, it's your 3G/LTE /Wifi constantly searching for signals near by, try turning off your 3G when your not using it, seet the heat will go away...
