It's running IOS 6 and I'm hoping that it's going to be an easy fix....

Can someone please help me to rid this annoying problem with my ipod...?

Any help ,or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

I'm having a similar problem trying to set-up my daughter's new iPod. Message says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes" Two of her friends also got this iPod for Christmas and are having the same problem...during initial set-up. I've tried the system updates 3 times. iTunes recognizes the device, but the computer is not recognizing it as a drive. I've tried both my Mac and my Windows PC. I've tried hard resets. You can't remap the drive because the device doesn't show up. Most of the apple support topics address if iTunes doesn't recognize the device in conjunction with the drive. Obviously a problem with the new update because several brand new iPod touches wouldn't be having the same problem. Please pass along any solutions and i'll do the same. Happy New Years!

What happens when you conntect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes?

See if placing the iPod in DFU mode will allow a restore.

Does the iPod charge when connected?

Have you tried another computer?

Have you tried another cable?

Some users have reported defective Lightning cables came with their 5G iPod. Some did not word from the beginning and for some the cables failed after a very short time.

Illaass you were right about the cable & DFU combo!!! When I connected to my iTunes before swapping the cable I went into DFU mode, but after it ran

it was still in recovery mode, but I swapped cables and ran DFU mode again viola it worked. I had tried 2 different computers, one a Mac and one Dell. But I think the cable was the major culprit, because I'm up an running on both computers now! Thanks so much :-)
