Why can't my system 'see' the fact that I've downloaded an update on some Epson printer software.,

Hi all, and happy New Year,

I was gifted an Epson Stylus CX5400 (about 10 yrs old now) but am unable to 'instruct' system preferences to recognise that the software exists on my

system.

Here's the image I get when I click '+' to add printer.

I'm simply unable to type anything anywhere, especially in those 2 boxes marked 'Name' and 'Location'.

Any ideas, anyone?

Hi Linc, as far as I can see from the Epson info sheet, it's about 9, maybe 10 yrs old, but my HP Photosmart is nearly 8 years old but that's still supported. I've had printers easily as old as the Epson and not experienced any problems. My suspicion is that Epson no longer support it, so how come I was able to download recently updated software for it?

many thanks for your trouble anyway.

PS At least it hasn't cost me anything. I think I'll re-gift it.
