my macbook pro freezes in safari or google chrome or just shuts down all together

My MacBook Pro freezes constantly when using Safari or Google Chrome. I have to reset to continue with anything.

It happens more often when using Java to play games and sometimes just closes the browser.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
