Odd Charging Behavior

iPod connected to computer, seen in iTunes, charges, light on iPod turns green but I keep it on the charger overnight. Next morning I unplug to use and the battery is now dead. This is the 2nd such incident. Prior to this I had no problems with this method of charging. How do I correct?
