My Apple TV is now full, I can´t sync more photos.

How do I use streaming - for all other photos (keeping all the existing ones as synced, on the ATV)?

Apple TV, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Yes that´s right, it is an Apple TV 1 with a hard drive.

Videos and music I stream (from our iMac to ATV). Most of our photos (the ones we like to show most often) we keep both on the computer (iMac, which also has an extra TimeMacine-harddrive connected) and on the ATV, synced.

I understand that there is an option to skip all the syncing of Photos but as I have understood it, we can´t get the same slidshows (with backgroundmusic randomly picked from the iTunes music library) with streaming, as with photos stored on the ATV?

We also sometimes lets the ATV and the TV/screen into the "standby-mode", where pictures are shown randomly from the whole (ATV-stored) library. With streaming I understand that is not possible?

So, if I´m right, I still wants to keep some (most) of our photos synced on the ATV - and the others (which there now are no room for) streamed. How?
