just got an apple tv second hand and it lets me enter network and start a sync but then switches from apple logo to menu and doesnt let you do anything

just got an apple tv second hand and it lets me set up the network and put in the code for itunes and once it syncs the movies and music i try to access the list and then it switches from apple logo to the menu screen and doesnt let you do anything i then have to restart or unplug i have also run diagnostic and restore and still does the same thing help please
