High res. Macbook Pro VS. Retina Macbook Pro

Okay guys I need some help. I've been debating for months which macbook pro to get because each one has different pros and cons. I fell in love with the retina display model at the store simply because I LOVE the slimness and the screen of the retina display but is it really worth it? I can get a regular macbook pro with high resolution screen, 8 memory and 750 hard drive for way less than a standard retina display with a 500gb hard drive. I'll be using my computer mostly for graphic design and also some photography using the adobe creative suite so i'll need a fast computer and a decent screen. I'd like to know how the high resulation screen compares to the retina display model because i've only seen the standard screens in stores. I'll need a hdmi port and an eithernet port so either computer I get i'll have to purchase an adapter. I'll also heard of problems with the retina display model ghosting and also crashing. I'd just like to hear what you guys think would be the most practical computer for me, which one you think out weighs the other and why and which one is the most for your money. Thanks guys!

I bought my retina MBP 2 1/2 months ago and I'm not regretting this purchase. I went into bestbuy to buy the Retina one, but the people screwed up and sold me the older one instead. Took it home and realized the mistake and immediately exchanged it out!

I have the base model, don't really see a need for the extras.

First of all, it's super quick (I upgraded from an HP DV7 1285DX; not very old either, 2009 I believe). The startup times are amazing! Literally only takes 15 secs for it to go from completely powered off to the login screen. The battery life is great, no need for a DVD Drive. I can always buy the SuperDrive if I need to use it for some reason.

I've never had any problems with any of the ones you mentioned. The only problem I've had so far is a bend on the usb port (my flash drive must've been pushed around while plugged in - just make sure you unplug all ports before you put it in a laptop bag).
