been looking for directions how to do it but can't seem to find anything. I would like to install the Logic 9 sound library content on my external drive to preserve space on my internal drive, thanks.

Unfortunately, the installation program doesn't allow you to do this directly (why - who knows?) so you'll have to install them on your system drive and move them to your other drive, I'm afraid.
There are a couple of other things about that, like maybe re-indexing the Apple Loops, if that turns out to be a problem. You'll probably be best just doing it, since the answers to such questions are here and plenty of other places on the Great Wibbly Wobbly Worldwide Net.
