Mpeg2 encoding FCP5

Hello out there, I'm trying to create an Mpeg2 using quicktime conversion (which I need to use so I can specify Mbps and Max bit rate) and I'm getting the serialization error message. I looked up past discussions and found a method involving Pacifist and removing QTMPEGExport form DVDSP4 and replacing it with the one from DVDSP3. I tried it and I still get the same error. Does anyone have any recomendations. Please anything, I'm on a deadline.

G5 QUAD, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

can you specify the target size with compressor. I need to get a 2 hour project to about a 4.1gig Mpeg2 file. It's easy with quicktime conversion and I don't want to waste my time with trial and error.

Yes, you can set up compressor to do what you want. You could start with one of the fast encode presets and modify it any way you like. Open the preset in the inspector and, in the Quality tab, change the "average bit rate" slider, you'll see the number of "minutes of video on a DVD-5" info change at the bottom of the inspector

As Denis indicates, Compressor is far more versatile and customizable than the export component.

If a deadline looms, consider Compressor rather than trying to get a DVD SP3 component to work in 4.

Okay, you guys just might be right. I'm just totally frustrated with this.
Compressor it is.
One question though, do you recommend that I make a quicktime of the project first or is it cool to go straight out of the project.

Make certain your timeline is full rendered and audio is mixed down.

Then you can either go straight to compressor, do a self contained or do a reference movie.
