I just bought an imac 2011 intel and I want to connect to my imac 2005. Can this be done?

Transfer files over to the other computer.
If you connect them to the network and turn on file sharing then you should be able to transfer files.

This can be done via gigabit ethernet, the fastest option, or Firewire 800/400 (9 pin/6 pin) cable the simplest to setup option. For ethernet, use file sharing as described here:

You should be aware that many applications on Intel Macs no longer are supported, and many of the old document formats aren't either.
