Is there any way to hook up the remote app from my iphone to my Apple TV if I lost the remote? I'm not sure is sharing was turned on before I lost it but I am sure I'm hooked up to the right wifi.

You could download and use the remote app, but it will only work once the Apple TV is set up, otherwise you will need the original remote or a replacement
It's all set up and I've been watching it, in fact it's on right now but the tv won't show up on my remote app?
Have you turned on homesharing on your device, if so did you use the same ID as on the Apple TV.

Try restarting the Apple TV, the router and your phone.
