File Error: Wrong Type with MPEG-4 Audio File

Help! I am trying to import an MPEG-4 Audio File into Final Cut Express2 but I keep getting a 'File Error: Wrong Type' message. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem. I really need this song for my video. PQu

Power Mac G5, Mac OS X (10.4), Using Final Cut Express 2

Use iTunes or QuickTime Pro to convert it to an AIFF, resampled at 48KHz (the settings should be no compression, 16-bit, stereo, 48,000Hz), then import into FCE.

I only see 'convert selection to AAC' and I've already tried this. Didn't work.

I used to be able to convert music files to AIFF before but I have recently upgraded my ITunes with ILife '06 and now I don't see that abilitly. Can this be part of the problem?

iTunes - check your iTunes preferences:

Preferences > Importing -
- select Import Using AIFF encoding
- select Custom
- select Sample Rate 48.000 kHz
- select Sample Size 16 bit
- select Channels stereo

Then import your MP4 into iTunes

Then control-click on the track name in iTunes, select Show Song File, which will open a Finder window from which you can copy your AIFF file to any location you want it.
